The Society is very pleased once again to be able to offer two bursaries of £1500 each to support postgraduate students or postdoctoral researchers working on topics related to Herculaneum (its environs, literature, history and reception; papyrology including imaging; archaeology and archaeological science; heritage management; education or outreach concerning these subjects). One award will be made for work in Herculaneum papyrology and the other can be on any relevant topic. The deadline for applications is 1 December 2021. Applications should be sent to and will include a description (one side, approx. 500 words) of your research and the use to which the award would be put; your institutional affiliation (e.g. doctoral student in papyrology at the University of X); a brief (one side) CV; and the name, title and address of one referee. Applications will be reviewed by a committee of the Trustees of the Society. Successful applicants will receive half the award at the outset of their work and the remainder upon receipt of a satisfactory statement of progress halfway through. They will be expected to give a talk to the Society on their work, and to write an account for our Newsletter. Please direct any inquiries to
